CPI Card Group Names John Lowe as New President and CEO

CPI Card Group Inc., a leading payment technology firm and provider of credit, debit, and prepaid solutions, has announced the appointment of John Lowe as its new President and CEO, effective immediately. Lowe has also been appointed to the company’s Board of Directors. Lowe’s ascension comes after the current CEO, Scott Scheirman, announced his intention to retire in early 2024.

Lowe joined CPI Card Group in 2018 and has since held various positions including Executive Vice President, End-to-End Payment Solutions, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Secure Card, and Chief Financial Officer. In these roles, Lowe has significantly contributed to the company’s revenues and operations.

H. Sandford Riley, Chair of CPI’s Board of Directors, expressed confidence in Lowe, citing his deep knowledge of the business, customers, and industry, and his proven leadership that has been a significant contributor to the company’s success.

Furthermore, Peggy O’Leary will be taking on the role of Senior Vice President, Prepaid Solutions and Chief Development and Digital Officer, reporting to Lowe. O’Leary has been with CPI since 2017, and has played a pivotal role in the company’s growth and expansion into new markets. Prior to joining CPI, O’Leary worked at various companies, including Jingit, InteliSpend, Maritz, and Hallmark.

Meanwhile, Scheirman will serve as Senior Advisor to the CEO until his retirement on February 28, 2024. He has also stepped down from CPI’s Board of Directors, effective immediately. The Board expressed its deep gratitude to Scheirman for his leadership and significant contributions to the company over the past six years.

Lowe is looking forward to taking on the leadership role. He expressed confidence in his team and is keen on expanding the company’s service offerings, including digital solutions, for its highly-valued customers. Before joining CPI, Lowe held senior executive leadership positions at the SquareTwo Financial Corporation and began his career within the Capital Markets and Audit practices at Deloitte. He holds a B.S. Degree in Accounting and Finance from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.
