Ascent Classical Academies Appoints First Chief People Officer

On January 10, 2024, Ascent Classical Academies (ACA) declared the appointment of Ronnie Spellman as its first Chief People Officer (CPO). The announcement comes as the Golden, Colorado based institution prepares to develop two new campuses in South Carolina and contemplates further expansion in the coming years.

Spellman carries an impressive track record with over 20 years of executive leadership experience in various sectors including established Fortune 500 companies, private equity-owned businesses, and start-ups. His versatile career compasses areas such as supply chain, real estate, marketing, human resources, information technology, and external relations.

Besides his regular work, Spellman has demonstrated a consistent commitment to community organizations. He most recently served as the board chairman for Interlink, a Texas-based regional nonprofit alliance. Moreover, he’s been an advisory board member for several universities and chambers of commerce, board chairman for a division of March of Dimes, and a member of Rotary Club.

In the early stages of his career, Spellman worked as an engineering scholar at Canon, NASA’s Office of Congressional Affairs, and as an intern in the United States Senate. The Virginia native is a Virginia Tech University graduate and continues to remain involved with the institution.

Spellman is currently serving on the board of directors for Catalyzer, a consulting firm specializing in leadership and organizational development. In addition to his professional pursuits, he supports programs benefiting military service members and first responders and devotes his time to volunteering for organizations that provide career guidance and workforce opportunities to students.

Derec Shuler, ACA Executive Director and Founder, expressed his excitement about Spellman joining the team. “Mr. Spellman’s passion for providing families with access to quality education complements ACA’s mission of offering a content-rich curriculum in the liberal arts,” said Shuler. He further remarked on Spellman’s business acumen playing a crucial role in building a top-tier human resource program for Ascent Classical.”
