Pinkard Construction Concludes Revamping Project at Kavod Senior Life Homes
Pinkard Construction, a leading Colorado-based full-service construction company, has announced the successful completion of a significant renovation project at Kavod Senior Life apartment homes in Cherry Creek, which started in 2019. The project involved a comprehensive revamp of 396 residential kitchens, including installing pull-out shelving in select base cabinets, and replacing old bathtubs with accessible walk-in acrylic-type shower pans for over 100 residential units.
Additional improvements were made, such as replacing pre-existing door hardware, lowering thermostats, adding in a coffee/bistro station, and constructing the West Building property management offices and an adjoining laundry facility. The overhaul project also saw the installation of new mechanical systems and air conditioning in the Health and Wellness Center in the West Building, and the Shul Classroom in the East Building.
After the construction had begun, Pinkard managed an important code-related owner upgrade, which encompassed adding a comprehensive fire alarm and sprinkler system. However, the project faced challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with supply chain interruptions and quarantine-related problems further complicating the already occupied renovation procedure.
When faced with the need for building evacuation in March 2020, Pinkard coordinated with Kavod management to implement a socially-distanced work plan. This plan allowed for construction to continue in non-residential spaces, ensuring minimal contact with residents or staff. Taking this step allowed Pinkard to finish all commercial and public spaces in the three towers, accounting for nearly half of the project’s scope, and yielding significant time and cost savings for the project owners. To further support the owner’s budget, staffing adjustments were made to cover only direct expenses linked to the general conditions.
Tony Burke, President of Pinkard Construction, expressed satisfaction with the project’s completion, emphasizing the challenges they faced during the pandemic. He also commended the careful efforts of their construction teams in ensuring that Kavod could remain operational. Kavod’s COO, Tracy Kapaun, also praised Pinkard Construction, describing the team as professional and the best she has worked with over the years.
