Gogo and Atlas Air Service to Develop Broadband Solutions for Light Jet Aircraft
Gogo Business Aviation, in partnership with Atlas Air Service AG, announced plans today to develop the first European Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) for HDX antennas. These certificates would cover the Cessna CitationJet series and the Embraer Phenom 300 aircraft, marking a milestone in aircraft broadband service. “For the first time ever, a true global broadband service will be available to thousands of aircraft operators in Europe and around the world,” said Radu Grigore, deputy director of MRO commercial for Atlas Air Service AG.
These STCs, expected to impact more than 2,600 aircraft worldwide, address a long-standing customer request for small and affordable broadband solutions. Notably, Atlas Air Service will initiate the STC development for the Cessna Citation 525 series, with hardware installations scheduled for this summer.
“Atlas Air Service has been at the forefront of getting these STCs developed which speaks volumes about the partnership we’ve built with them,” said Shuaib Shahid, head of international sales for Gogo Business Aviation. By targeting midsize and smaller aircraft, Gogo is looking to solidify its position within Europe’s business aviation market. Gogo Galileo, hoping to capitalize on this operational edge, will function on the fully deployed Eutelsat OneWeb enterprise-grade Low-Earth-Orbit satellite network.
Following rigorous testing and verification, Gogo plans to initiate flight testing with the prototype HDX terminal this summer. A hands-on demonstration of the Atlas Air CJ1+ is also planned to take place at the European Business Aviation Conference and Expo in Geneva, Switzerland from May 28-30.
Gogo is the world’s largest provider of broadband connectivity services in the business aviation sector, with products installed on a wide range of aircraft types. As of December 31, 2023, over 7,000 business aircraft were equipped with Gogo’s broadband ATG systems, and 4,341 aircraft had installed narrowband satellite connectivity.
